Cognis in Spain

Cognis is a globally active specialty chemicals company with leading positions in many of its markets. It has around 5,900 employees at production and service sites in 30 countries. Cognis is active in over 100 countries around the world. Cognis evolved in 1999 from the Chemical Products division of Henkel, one of the leading German manufacturers of branded consumer goods. Since November 2001, Cognis has been owned by private equity funds advised by Permira, GS Capital Partners and SV Life Sciences.

Cognis is represented in Spain through its affiliated company Cognis Iberia and operates from two sites, Castellbisbal and Zona Franca, both located in the Barcelona area. Its headquarters are in Castellbisbal accommodating the general management, the financial and administrative offices, marketing and commercial departments, as well as application labs and manufacturing facilities.

Cognis is divided into three Strategic Business Units (SBUs): Care Chemicals, Nutrition & Health and Functional Products. Key customers can be found in the cosmetics market, the detergents and cleaners sector and the nutrition and health industry. Cognis also provides key input products for industrial manufactures such as paints and varnishes, for lubricant production and for agriculture and mining.
