Monday, February 03, 2003 the international specialty chemicals company Cognis signed a contract to sell its subsidiary Protina Lactovit based in Bischheim near Strasbourg. The new owner of the developer and manufacturer of additives for meat preparation and convenience foods is the French company PALC SAS. In 2002, Protina Lactovit achieved sales of approx. EUR 7.8 million. After successful negotiations with the successor of choice, Cognis expects the transfer of ownership in three to four weeks. Both parties have agreed to keep the sales price confidential.
The new owner, PALC SAS, is a family-owned, medium-sized French enterprise with annual sales of approx. EUR 24 million. PALC SAS manufactures spice mixtures and flavour enhancers for convenience foods, and has announced that it intends to relocate Protina Lactovit production to its own factory in Mittelhausen (Alsace). However, this is not a significant change for Protina Lactovit employees, since the plant is only 25 kilometres away from Bischheim.
