Cognis sources about half a million mt per year of natural oils and fats for the production of methyl esters, fatty alcohols and specialties in their plant facilities globally. Beside competitive market prices, quality terms based on international and internal standards, the continuous availability and the safety of deliveries are important requirements from our suppliers.

The buying process follows the Cognis Safety Policy under the SHEQ ISO system. Our goal is to develop and maintain a close cooperation with qualified suppliers on a long-term basis. While purchasing classical oils and fats commodities, we also focus on contract planting for special oilseeds in cooperation with agriculture cooperatives in the EU. Beside the classical vegetable oil feedstocks Cognis also purchases various grade of the primary downstream products such as Fatty Acid, ME and FOH.
